City of Melbourne (FL) and Sierra Ready for 100% Sustainability

Melbourne City Council took action at their July 25, 2017 meeting on a resolution to agree to 2 asks:
  1. Sign the Sierra Ready for 100% Pledge committing to 100% sustainability city operations by 2035 and within city limits by 2050
  2. Setup a sustainability board that will do the research, plan and track the implementation of this goal/pledge.

Thanks to all those who showed up at this meeting to support this resolution, by wearing blue and/or green, and especially to those who spoke in favor of the resolution.

The resolution was approved 5-2 (Mayor Meehan and T. Thomas voted nay).  An ordinance will be drafted creating a sustainability board. Council Member Lopez clarified that the board should focus on the use of clean energy.  Vice Mayor Debbie Thomas asked that staff provide information on the cost of staffing such a board.
