Florida Sea Grant /IFAS Extension Presentation
Nov. 21st 7 pm
Florida Sea Grant is a university-based program that supports research, education and extension to conserve coastal resources and enhance economic opportunities for the people of Florida.
Holly Abeels is the Florida Sea Grant Extension Agent for the University of Florida IFAS Extension office in Brevard County. She has been with Extension since 2010. Her background is in marine and environmental science. As an Extension Agent she educates about environmental sustainability, climate change adaptation and resiliency, the Indian River Lagoon, and much more. She feels like she has accomplished her job when someone takes what they have learned with her and uses that information to teach others. Personally she is married with a dog, cat, fish, and 7 chickens and enjoys to read, run, and eat good food. She also is a volunteer dog trainer but really that just means she trains people.
Extension is a partnership between state, federal, and county governments. Extension’s goals are to provide scientific knowledge and expertise to the public. In Florida, the University of Florida and Florida A&M University administer the Florida Cooperative Extension Service. The areas that Extension works are agriculture, horticulture, families and communities, 4-H youth development, and natural resources. Extension develops and disseminates educational materials and programs derived from university-based research.
Free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30.
